Tony Soprano dies, Hamdallah resigns , and voting for Assaf goes on ...

The saddest in all is the death of the eternal mafia tv series hero ,( james gandolfini), at a relatively young age after seen dining healthily the night before .
Death , the most influential enemy or maybe ally of the human race . That thing that sneaks into our lives suddenly unexpectedly without any previous notice and does what it desires . Once and forever...all what we were before that instant disappears and all what we become is just dust ...
Death , the only continuous reality that we live, and yet , we never learn .
Whats the connection between this man's death and the resignation of the PM after two weeks ? Probably nothing ...
But somewhere power and fame , that light that shuns from them is a deadly one ... Maybe for someone like Hamdalla who experienced the burning light of death when he lost his children in one instant after a tragic car accident , can make the resemblance with the deadly light . He knows well that going through it will only bring him closer to his end , and he seems to be someone who values life ...
He values life because he experienced it's loss .
He decided to quit the glamour of power , the power he apparently realized quickly that is fake , and maybe he is smart enough to realize that there cannot be glamour in such a powerless power.
I am thinking of all those congratulating ads that flowed our newspapers for weeks ( two weeks) , all that money that was wasted .. All that money that will be wasted again on the next assigned prime minister ... Someone was benefiting for sure " the newspaper " . One probably , of the winning stakeholders in such a situation . Those who spent thousands on ads big and small, black and white or colored , on the first page, middle or last , are probably angry at his Excellency at the moment , and they are swearing probably not to put any congratulation expenses next time , until the man sit in his chair for at least a month ...maybe...
A man who was just a few weeks before a normal man , suddenly found himself in the center of the hypocracy of a whole nation , and he was required to perform in the best way ever, inside an already rotten place.
To be honest, I was thinking when he accepted the position, what if I was In his place? as everyone already knows, the positive side of being a palestinain in this situation that everyone can dream and even mobilize to become a minister ,so why not a prime minister .
So I was thinking if I was offered the position ,would I take it or not , and all the ideals of the world vanished as I thought to myself ,of course I will, if I cannot change anything and I would definitely cannot , and I would definitely not last there for a few days , I would at least have it on my cv . And I will definitely have a better opportunity for a future career .
And while he must be sitting now at the quietness of his home, feeling liberated maybe, or maneuvering for a next move that will give him more power if he comes back . After all, he didn't threaten to resign, he acted directly and instinctively ( I would say it is his leo side ) . This move makes him infront of the hyenas ( talking about lions, it brings the scene closer to this ) surrounding power and his offices a decisive man . If he comes back , he will come back stronger . And if he doesn't , which most wish he does not, because all the wishing to take his place are probably lobbying now sitting waiting next ot their mobiles . And of course, this means that there is a new chance for another cabinet, even if a few more ministries are opened for the auction it will not be a problem . So there must be more open swelling tongues waiting for him to leave.
As for the president , who cares ? Since he himself doesn't care ... Remove one , replace another , and if things get really really tough, he is there , all big and powerful, another position next to his other positions will not harm . He will not look nice infront of us , his people? He never bothered anyway ... And we don't ... He will look like a dictator infront of the west ?that is also unlikely , as long as he is managing his relations well , they could bother themselves less..
So where is the connection with all this and Assaf ....
Assaf , the real light that came to us in many ways shunning our hearts. A young man seeking a desperate opportunity to reach a dream . A dream that is hard to realize for dreamers in general except with non stop determination . But with a Palestinian .. Only us Palestinians can understand what it means to reach for a dream . To try to reach your hands up to the sky .becasue our sky is not like any other sky . It is a sky that is contaminated and isolated . A sky surrounded with walls and electric wires and the only wind it has is that that comes from the dust of a passing bulldozer , and stars that are confused with missiles. And for a gazan dream .. Even my imagination will stop on the thought .
Assaf made it , with a boring Palestinian reality , his crossing the borders are like no other crossing , his arrival to the casting even required him to Jump over a wall...
A reality that the world became exhausted of , because how come we live such a tragedy from one side, and have a PA that is so corrupt from another side .
How could it be that a young man like him has to plan his leave to egypt for a casting of a show months and months before, with plans that exceeded from A to probably Z , and explains this to the world ,and the world receives it with empathy .. And there in the hall of fame of Arab idol , Palestinians from politicians to businessmen have been making Beirut their pilgrimage destination in the last weeks to support him ? How could it suddenly be so easy for some to go back and forth and to some like Assaf himself a lifetime journey ?
The fever of Assaf , suddenly became like a reach out to the sky .Assaf victory in this show will break our chains and librate us ... Not from occupation for sure , but to people as simple as me to hope .
But while people like me seek hope in this young man's glamour and enigma . Those , like the ones who applauded for the new prime minister some weeks ago in news papers and bouquets , those who have been benefitting from it all, while the PM was sitting on his new throne probably overwhelmed , are the same who are applauding for Assaf victory right now .
As the young man is fighting for his way to stardom that he deserves . Those major money tycoons on different levels and size are riding on his tail .
As if Assaf's winning will liberate Palestine ... It must be more precious, because liberating Palestine doesn't seem of our interest .
I keep thinking , with all this money that has been spent on voting , we will definitely can make our society benefit in what should be useful to the building of this economically destroyed entity . If I would call for a fundraising event to build a school or a hospital , or ask to donate money for someone who is dying in a hospital or a student education , would I get even ten percent of the attention of the people who united now to make victory out of Assaf?
The answer is that I will not even get a one percent of the attention.
And of course, I could be called a traitor , or a self palestinain hater , because voting Assaf is voting Palestine .
But who cares, for someone who is likely moving against the current of this existence...
My only hope for Assaf to make it as a winner , just for him , because he deserves it , and if he doesn't , he has become an icon anyway. The number of votes is nothing but a business calculation . And by the next show, Assaf will be nothing but a falling star ,and another will come and take the sky .
And the PM who learnt the lesson of the reality of the situation and decided to sit back home and watch Arab idol with no constrains , like his previous boss.
And to all, Tony soprano the legend has just passed away when it didn't even cross his mind....RIP
